Located on 320 acres in the heart of New York State’s Finger Lakes region, Hobart and William Smith Colleges are guided by a curriculum grounded in exploration and rigor. The Colleges prepare students to think critically. In partnership with the Geneva and global communities and through robust programs in career development, study-abroad, service, leadership and athletics, the Colleges foster an environment that values global citizenship, teamwork, ethics, inclusive excellence and cultural competence.
The Education Department prepares scholar activists and teachers across a variety of fields, and also offers 15 New York State-registered programs leading to licensure (Childhood Education, dual Childhood Ed and Students with Disabilities, TESOL, Art, Music, and most secondary school subjects – English, French, Spanish, Latin, mathematics, social studies, biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics). Students major in fields other than education, and complete five semesters of pedagogical seminars, related coursework, and school placements. Students complete more than 650 hours of field-based experiences, and are exceptionally prepared for careers in teaching and related employment.
