About this Pathway 9
This pathway is an alternative route to certification designed for candidates who have already completed a teacher preparation program in another state in the U.S and also currently have a valid teaching certificate and/or recent teaching experience in another state in the U.S. Candidates are now seeking to teach in New York State. This pathway leads to conditional initial certification.
Requirements
To get a teaching certificate in this pathway, you need:
- Check whether your current certificate is accepted by NYSED
- Workshops
a. Dignity For All Students Act (DASA) Workshop
b. Child Abuse Identification Workshop
c. School Violence Intervention and Prevention Workshop - Fingerprint clearance
Route
- Check to see whether your certificate is on this approved list of out-of-state certificates
- Complete any required additional coursework
- Apply to NYSED for a conditional initial teaching certificate through NYSED’s “Endorsement” pathway
This pathway ends with the candidate completing all coursework requirements for conditional initial teaching certification. Once the candidate completes the other New York State certification requirements, a candidate may apply for a conditional initial teaching certificate.
*A candidate must have completed a teacher preparation program that is on this NYSED approved list of out-of-state programs.
