To become New York State certified, you must apply to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) for your teacher certification.

How to Apply for Your Teacher Certification

Now that you have selected your certificate and completed the certification requirements, you are ready to apply for your teacher certification. Follow these steps to complete your application for New York State certification. If you are enrolled in a teacher preparation program, your program will recommend you for certification.

Step One. Determine the subject area(s) and grade level(s) you’d like to teach in, as well as any annotations or extensions you are interested in. Annotations and extensions can be attached to a valid Initial or Professional certificate and authorize you to teach in additional areas. Step Two. Create and log in to your TEACH account.

Step Three. Update and verify your profile.

Step Four. Add the certificate you are interested in to the application.

Step Five. Complete the application and pay the application fee.
